Bacolod City College

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City College (BCC) starting this school year will now offer students of free tuition and miscellaneous fees.

Cong. Greg Gasataya said BCC is among the local universities and colleges (LUCs) providing free education under Republic Act 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA).

The Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Governing Board recently granted approval of benefits to 27 LUCs on May 30, including BCC.

Gasataya welcomed the approval for the BCC, which he had lobbied at the Congress since last year.

BCC, which has about 3,500 students, charges P30 per unit. Each student pays P1,196 for 29 units, including miscellaneous fees.

Ma. Johanna Bayoneta, BCC administrator, meanwhile clarified students who will avail themselves of the free tuition but have already paid will be given a refund.

The implementing rules and regulations of UAQTEA states that enrolled college students need not pay for their tuition, miscellaneous and other related charges.

The miscellaneous fees include library, computer, laboratory, school ID, athletic, admission, development, handbook, guidance, entrance, registration, medical, dental, and cultural fees. (With a report from PNA/PN)
