Bacolod City dad seeks agencies’ help in land dispute

BACOLOD City – The members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod are calling on various government offices and agencies to immediately conduct an ocular inspection at the Old Agumod Creek, in Purok Makawiwili, Barangay Banago here.

Councilor Renecito Novero said the request is in relation to the letter of the residents living near the creek asking the city council for assistance to resolve their long-standing problem with their road right-of-way.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod has addressed the concern to the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), the Office of the Building Official (OBO), the City Legal Office (CLO), the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), the Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Negros Occidental and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Novero, being chairman of the committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, accepted the correspondence and conducted a public hearing on Sept. 3.

During the hearing some of the matters in contention were whether or not the area at the Old Agumod Creek is considered a “danger zone”; whether or not the perimeter wall built around the property of the Proxima Centauri is encroaching on public land – especially the one constructed atop the riprap and the one leading to Purok Langis; and whether or not the entire the property enclosed within the perimeter walls is owned by Proxima Centauri.

“To settle these matters in contention, I conducted an ocular inspection at the site on Sept. 29,” Novero disclosed.

On Oct. 24, a committee report was submitted to the city council by Novero and concluded that the matter needs the skills and knowledge of certain government agencies such as the OBO, CEO, CLO, ENRO, DENR, BHA and DPWH – recommending that these agencies conduct an ocular inspection on the site to settle the matters in contention, as well as to their submit findings and recommendations to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Novero said./PN
