Bacolod city gov’t to become a water supplier?

BACOLOD City – To resolve the longstanding problem of water supply in this city, the local government has offered to be the supplier of bulk water to the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) and Prime Water Infrastructure Inc. (PrimeWater).

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has issued an ultimatum to Baciwa-PrimeWater that they have to come up with an agreement by next week that would ensure the daily supply of 20 million liters. It is also to expedite the construction of water pipes in the city.

During last week’s meeting, the mayor proposed that the local government enter into an agreement with bulk water suppliers in order for the city to be the one supplying water to Baciwa-PrimeWater.

Ang city na lang ang ma-engage, or we sign an agreement with the bulk water suppliers and the local government unit naman ang ma-sign sa PrimeWater to expedite the process,” the mayor said.

Benitez noted that both were amenable to the proposal.

The local chief executive clarified that the city will not be making money from this; instead, under the proposed flexible arrangement, the process would be more efficient and time-saving./PN
