‘Bacolod City residents must be proactive vs dengue’

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia reiterated his call to the public to be proactive in fighting the deadly mosquito-borne disease.

“We are urging barangay officials to intensify their localized intervention measures,” said Leonardia.

He added that despite the surge in the number of dengue cases, an outbreak cannot yet be declared in Bacolod City.

“I am encouraging all residents to do their part by cleaning their areas,” Leornardia said.

From Jan 1 to July 6, Bacolod already posted 561 cases of the deadly viral disease, s57.6 percent higher compared to 356 cases in the same period last year, records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.

CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head Grace Tan said barangays that have high cases of dengue are among the thickly populated area.

“These areas include barangays Estefania, Tangub, Pahanocoy, Taculing, Granada, Mansilingan, Alijis, Handumanan, Villamonte, and Mandalagan,” Tan said.

She added that the CHO is now monitoring the average rate for the past five years.

“Dapat subong pa lang we have to act as one para indi na kita mag lab-ot sa stage nga everybody will be afraid of going to Bacolod,” Tan stressed./PN
