BACOLOD City — A 16-year-old Grade 11 student surrendered to authorities hours after he allegedly punched and injured a police officer with a brass knuckle outside a public high school in Barangay Granada here on Friday, August 14.
Police Capt. Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 5, said the student was accompanied by his mother when he surrendered at the police station and spoke with the injured officer.
Ofalia said the student apologized for his actions and acknowledged his mistake.
However, the 40-year-old Police Master Sergeant, who is assigned as an intelligence operative at Police Station 5, intends to pursue a direct assault complaint against the student.
The officer sustained an injury below his left eye after allegedly being punched with a brass knuckle.
The incident occurred during the lunch break when police officers passing through the area saw a group of students skateboarding along the road, while other students and parents were also crossing the street.
The police officer approached the group and told them to stop skateboarding because it was posing a danger and obstructing traffic.
While the officer was talking to another student, one of the group members allegedly attacked him from behind and punched him in the face using a brass knuckle.
The students reportedly fled toward the school premises following the incident.
Ofalia said the student has since been placed under the custody of the Social Development Center, which handles children in conflict with the law (CICL).
The police are continuing to document the incident and process the appropriate complaint against the student./PN
