BACOLOD City — A police officer of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) was injured, while a suspect was wounded, following an attempted murder incident along Luzuriaga Street, beside the Bacolod Central Market in Barangay 12, on the morning of December 22.
According to the BCPO, the incident occurred at around 7:50 a.m., prompting personnel from Police Station 1 to respond to a reported commotion in the area.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim, a married male police officer and resident of Barangay Sum-ag, was walking along Luzuriaga Street when he was suddenly struck on the head from behind with a steel pipe by the suspect, a 56-year-old man from Barangay Bata, also in this city.
Police said that after hitting the officer, the suspect allegedly drew a knife from his waist and attempted to stab the victim without provocation. In an act of self-defense, the police officer fired his service firearm, hitting the suspect in the right leg.
Both the police officer and the suspect sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities said a follow-up investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Police Station 1 of the BCPO is leading the investigation./PN
