Bacolod cops tighten watch vs ‘quarantine escapees’

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is tightening its monitoring of quarantine facilities. Two persons being quarantined recently escaped, one of whom was subsequently found dead, according to the Quarantine Center Action Team (QCAT).

Police did not disclose their identities but said the fatality was found near the seawall of a compound in Barangay Pahanocoy around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to Councilor Renecito Novero, chairman of the QCAT, the victim was naked and floating in the water.

He had been suffering from depression, Novero told reporters.

“The Department of Social Services and Development tried to talk to him when he was in the isolation facility, but the patient was evasive,” he added.

According to investigators from Police Station 8, the victim was last seen alive in the morning of Nov. 1.

Police have yet to ascertain the cause of his death.

The other escapee was a watcher of a coronavirus patient who had just undergone surgery, according to Novero.

However, Novero said, the person was found and safely brought back to the quarantine facility.

The reason he escaped remained unclear./PN
