BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Government is strengthening security in government-owned establishments through the deployment of Blue Guards in key public facilities across the city on a shifting schedule.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s efforts to enhance public safety and maintain peace and order in public areas.
Previously, security in government-owned facilities was primarily handled by personnel from the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO). Under the administration of Mayor Greg Gasataya, however, additional security personnel are being assigned to strategic locations.
A total of 17 Blue Guards have already been deployed to three campuses of Bacolod City College as part of the city’s expanded security program.
The guards have been assigned to the BCC Main Campus in Barangay Taculing, as well as the campuses in Barangay Sum-ag and Fortune Town in Barangay Estefania.
The city government has allocated approximately P4.9 million for the program, covering the period from May 23 to December 31, 2026.
Starting June 1, Blue Guards will also be deployed at the Bacolod City Public Plaza, according to City Administrator Mark Steven Mayo.
In an interview, Mayo said six Blue Guards will be assigned to ensure the plaza remains orderly, secure, and free from individuals staying overnight in the area.
The guards will work alongside personnel already stationed at the plaza, including officers from Police Station 1.
Under the initial contract, the deployment at the plaza will run until December 31, 2026.
The city government is currently completing the procurement process for the program.
Bacolod has earmarked P1.787 million for the deployment of Blue Guards at the public plaza, where personnel will provide round-the-clock security coverage.
Gasataya earlier said the city also plans to deploy Blue Guards to other government-owned establishments in the coming months as part of broader efforts to improve security in public spaces.
According to the mayor, the presence of dedicated guards at the plaza is expected to bolster peace and order while providing a safer environment for residents and tourists.
Meanwhile, POSO personnel will continue to maintain a presence in the area to assist in enforcing local ordinances and preserving public order.
The city government is also studying possible interventions for barkers and individuals who frequently stay at the plaza./PN
