BACOLOD City – The son of Henry Sy Sr. cited this city for being the first in the Philippines to recognize the accomplishments of his father.
“It’s really an honor,” Hans Sy said as he received two recognitions from the city government on behalf of the business tycoon.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia conferred the elder Sy the honor as an “Adopted Son of the City of Bacolod” and the “Honorary Mayor of the City of Bacolod” via Executive Order (EO) No. 01, series of 2017 during the Bacolaodiat Festival, a local Chinese New Year celebration, on Saturday.
According to the EO, Sy was named “Adopted Son of the City of Bacolod” by virtue of Resolution No. 09-17-21, series of 2017 unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Jan. 6.
Sy is “a perfect example of success as a result of hard work and determination, persevering despite the many hardships encountered, and thus worth emulating by all generations of Filipinos,” Leonardia said.
“[Bacolod] and its constituents gratefully recognize [Sy] for his achievements and exceptional contributions to the economic development and growth of the city and of the Filipino nation in general, and honor him with distinction of holding the title of Honorary Mayor of the city,” said the mayor./PN
