BACOLOD City – In line with efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and response, the city government has distributed emergency “go-bags” to vulnerable sectors while also providing aid to families affected by Typhoon “Crising”.

During a ceremonial turnover held at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) lobby on July 24, more than 500 senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) received waterproof emergency kits.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) provided the go-bags, which include a 44-piece first aid kit, flashlight, whistle, survival card, portable tumbler, and other essential items designed to enhance individual preparedness during emergencies.

Mayor Greg Gasataya emphasized the importance of prioritizing vulnerable sectors in disaster response planning.

“There are no exemptions when disaster strikes,” he said, stressing the need for inclusive and proactive measures.

He also announced plans to convert the Annex Building into a dedicated Senior Citizens Center and confirmed that the ‘Senior Citizens and PWD Day’ will continue to be a key event during the MassKara Festival in October.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to inclusive service — impartial and equitable, with a focus on those who need it most,” the mayor added.

Meanwhile, 830 families affected by flooding caused by “Crising” have received food and relief packs from the city government, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Negros Island Region (DSWD-NIR) and barangays including Singcang-Airport, Cabug, and Granada.

In addition, the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) is currently processing financial assistance for affected families in Barangay Granada, whose homes were partially damaged by floodwaters and fallen trees.

Each qualified household with partially damaged homes is set to receive P10,000 to support immediate repair needs./PN
