Bacolod gov’t gives away brand new car on New Year

BACOLOD City – The city government is giving away a brand new car during its New Year’s Day celebration on December 31.

The city’s New Year Countdown or “Salubong” for the year 2025 will be held at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds. And the raffle draw, one of its highlights, has been part of the countdown since Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez assumed office in 2022, according to Atty. Marty Go, the secretary to the mayor.

He said the mayor himself sponsors the raffle prizes from his personal money.

The raffle however is only open to Bacolod City residents. The mechanics for the raffle was being finalized as of this writing and will be posted in the official Facebook page of the Bacolod City Public Information Office (BCD PIO).

A fireworks display will follow at the back of the BCGC after the countdown.

Meanwhile, Go said the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will strictly implement Republic Act No. 7183, which regulates the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.

This is to ensure public safety while everyone is welcoming the New Year, he said.

Go added that every barangay in the city has designated firecrackers zones./PN
