Bacolod gov’t orders closure of erring hotels

BACOLOD City – The local government unit of this city issued closure orders against three establishments for operating without a mayor’s permit.

Permits and Licensing Division (PLD) head Stela Rose Rayos said these businesses – two hotels and a pension house – were temporarily shut down yesterday.

“They have applied for a mayor’s permit and the status is on process. But they were inspected two times na and during the third inspection they were served with closure orders,” Rayos told Panay News.

City Legal Office (CLO) head Joselito Bayatan, however, requested to withhold the names of the establishments.

“The closure order was upon the recommendation of the PLD and the CLO acted upon it,” said Bayatan.

Joint forces of the Office of the Building Official (OBO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), City Legal Office, and the PLD served the order.

Bayatan also said the three establishments did not comply with relevant fire safety laws.

“We found out that they were lacking in fire safety equipment such as fire alarms, sprinklers and fire exits,” said Bayatan.

An establishment needs to secure OBO and BFP inspection certificates before they could apply for a mayor’s permit.

Ang mga hotels nabudlayan mag-secure sang permit kay karikot, damu pa na nga compliance. Pero indi naman related sa safety, more naman sa health,” he said.

These three establishments will remain closed until they have secured necessary permits./PN
