BACOLOD City — Motorists are advised to expect traffic disruptions this week as the Bacolod City Government implements temporary road closures and rerouting measures in connection with the 2026 FIBA Under-18 (U18) Women’s Asia Cup Southeast Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) Qualifiers.
The Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department (BTTMD) announced the temporary closure of a portion of Hilado Street, from L.N. Agustin Drive to Lopez Jaena Street, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily starting today, June 2, until June 6.
The traffic scheme is being enforced to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and spectators attending the five-day international basketball tournament hosted by Bacolod City.
Under the designated rerouting plan, northbound motorists coming from Burgos Street are advised to turn left onto Hilado Street, proceed right to Yakal Street, and then turn left onto Lopez Jaena Street.
The BTTMD urged motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel stationed in the area, allow extra travel time, and use alternative routes to avoid congestion during tournament hours.
Alongside the traffic adjustments, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has deployed 369 police personnel to secure key locations, including the tournament venue at the West Negros University-STI Gymnasium, billeting facilities, the Bacolod City Government Center, transport terminals, and other strategic areas.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the tournament provides Bacolod an opportunity to showcase its capability to host international sporting events while promoting sports tourism and stimulating local economic activity.
The city officially welcomed the participating delegations during a welcome dinner held following a press conference on June 1, attended by city officials and representatives of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
The five-day regional tournament is expected to draw athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters from various Southeast Asian countries, providing a boost to the local hospitality, transportation, and food industries.
