BACOLOD City – The Department of Health (DOH) will launch today the nationwide “Alas-Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign that aims to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the City Health Office (CHO), said the city will join the nationwide activity.
At 4 p.m. today, the public will conduct cleaning operation to destroy mosquito breeding places.
“Consistent action will reduce mosquito population, lowering the risk of dengue transmission,” she said.
From January 1 to February 8 this year, the CHO recorded 124 dengue cases with zero fatality. This is 96.8 percent higher than the 63 cases with no death listed in the same period last year.
“Despite the rising cases, it has yet to reach the threshold. Last year the trend was also the same but eventually cases decreased due to dry season,” Tan added./PN
