BACOLOD City – Mayor Greg Gasataya has sought the assistance of Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Atty. George Garcia for orderly and safe voters’ registration in this city.
This comes after the chaotic situation outside the satellite registration site at the Robinsons Place Bacolod on Saturday, August 9.
“Nagkomiter man siya [Garcia] nga magahimo sila sang mga adjustments kag magatawag siya sa Comelec-Bacolod para diri,” Mayor Gasataya said.
Thousands of registrants flocked to the said mall on Saturday, the ninth day of satellite registration. Also, due to the heat and cramped conditions, some individuals felt dizzy and fainted.
Following this, Mayor Greg Gasataya sent airb laster to the area. The city government also provided portalets.
The city mayor also coordinated with Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), to control the crowd.
Meanwhile, the Comelec said it will not extend the 10-day voters’ registration period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
But according to Garcia, if the elections are postponed, the poll body will resume its voters’ registration later this year.
“Our registration will have no extension. This is only for 10 days. But if the Barangay and SK Elections will be reset, instead of December 1, and moved to November 2026, we will resume the registration,” Garcia said in Filipino.
He added: “We will resume the registration in the third week of October until July next year.”
