Bacolod monitors 23 for COVID-19

BACOLOD City – The number of persons under monitoring (PUMs) in this city for possible infection caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has risen to 23, according to the City Heath Office.

CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head Grace Tan said three additional PUMs who had history of travel from COVID-19-hit countries are now undergoing self-quarantine in their respective houses.

Tan clarified that the city has no patients under investigation (PUI) in any of the hospitals here.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who chairs the city’s inter-agency task force against COVID-19, said the body passed a resolution mulling the postponement of the scheduled arrival of a group of Japanese employers planning to hire workers from Negros Occidental.

The group includes 87 persons who will land at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City and proceed to neighboring Murcia town but will have accommodations in Bacolod City. They are expected to arrive on Thursday, March 12.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Familiaran said the task force is still waiting for Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s final decision regarding their recommendation.

Meanwhile, city poll officer Jan Anthony Saril said voter registration at Commission on Elections Office as well as satellite registration in this city has been suspended until March 31 a response to the growing threat to public health posed by COVID-19.

The suspension will take effect nationwide effective on March 10./PN
