BACOLOD City – City councilors asked the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through Secretary Ismael Sueno to give one fire truck to the local Bureau of Fire Protection unit.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved a resolution making the request on March 29, according to Councilor Em Ang.
With seven serviceable fire trucks and a population of 579,101, the fire trucks-population ratio in Bacolod is 1:82,729, Ang said.
But the councilor said the ideal ratio is 1:28,000,
“It is apparent that the current number of city fire trucks is grossly inadequate to serve the constituents, especially during big fires and emergencies,” said Ang.
Having one more fire truck will allow local firefighters to “appropriately respond to not only fires but any emergency [in] high-rise buildings and structures,” she added.
Meanwhile the SP also approved a resolution encouraging all barangays to adopt E-Transaction.
E-Transaction, a browser-based software, was designed to support the barangay in everyday transactions and managing documents, and generate transaction reports.
Barangay Felisa already launched on March 25 its E-Transaction as part of its Barangay Information Management System, making it the first barangay in Negros to officially use the software, the SP said.
“Computerization, technological improvements and innovative methods allow public services to be delivered more effectively and expeditiously, meeting the needs of the citizenry through integrated and convenient ways,” read part of the resolution./PN
