BACOLOD City – The city government has partnered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as part of its initiatives to improve the local business climate.

The two-day SEC-GAD (Gender and Development) Investor Information Seminar held at the Bacolod City Government Center ended on Nov. 17.

It was attended by almost 300 participants from the academe, business and the government.

“I believe that in this business world today, corporations are somehow indispensable. I believe that the more corporations we have, the more it would indicate that there is dynamism and progress. Development is naturally going to follow,” Mayor Evelio Leonardia said during the seminar.

This year, the city is one the top 3 finalists in the Search for the Most Business-Friendly City of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Top Philippine Model City for 2017 for being the “most livable urban center in the country” according to The Manila Times.

SEC officials, led by Commissioner Emilio Aquino, gave lectures on GAD’s role in capital market, microfinance and lending, investment scams, investment products, and company registration system.

Meanwhile, Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, chairwoman of the Provincial Council for Women, talked about sexual harassment.

SEC-Iloilo Extension Office director Russel Ildesa also warned participants against investing money in unregistered investment schemes operating in social media. (PIA/PN)
