BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has approved Gatuslao Street along the Central Market as an additional location for more kiosks for the MassKara Festival 2024.
This was confirmed by Councilor Jason Villarosa, chairman of the SP committee on tourism, yesterday, October 4, adding the only dry goods will be sold on the said street.
The Bacolod Yuhum Foundation Inc. (BYFI), the organizer of the festival, had earlier requested the SP for one more location for kiosks.
This will be the first time that one lane of the Gatuslao Street will be utilized for kiosks.
The first four festival sites are Bacolod public plaza, Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), Lacson tourism strip, and The Upper East-Megaworld.
Meanwhile, the BYFI said preparations were ongoing for the festival kickoff – a Grand Countdown Salubong – on October 11 at the BCGC.
Setting the stage for a celebration of heritage, culture, entertainment, and Bacolodnon spirit, the event will begin with a motorcade, leading to an evening of fun and music, with local pop-rock group Yuya entertaining the BCGC crowd.
December Avenue is also set to serenade Bacolodnons with their hit songs “Sa Ngalan ng Pag-ibig,” “Kung Di Rin Lang Ikaw,” and “Kahit Di Mo Alam.”
Signaling the start of the month-long festivities is a fireworks display at midnight, followed by infectious beats courtesy of ZYD and MC Wayne.
“MassKara is more than just street dances, food, and merry-making. It is also a reminder that despite our problems, there is always enough reason to smile,” said Kuster Cadagat, Secretary and Festival Director for Cultural and Accredited Events of BYFI.
This year’s festival highlights include the MassKaNamit Cookfest, MassKaraLympics, Lacson MassKara 2024: Kingdom, the MassKarade Ball, MassKara Elektroika Diva, and the Street Dance and Arena Competition, alongside the crowning of the new Miss Bacolod MassKara./PN
