BACOLOD City – The city council through a resolution thanked the Regional Development Council (RDC) for endorsing the P1.6-billion fund for the development of some airports in Western Visayas.

Two of these airports are the Bacolod-Silay Airport and Kabankalan City Airport in Negros Occidental.

Resolution proponent Councilor Ricardo Tan said RDC’s approval of the Airport Development Plan 2019, which includes the fund request of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Department of Transportation, will “not only improve our airports in the province but will also open the gates for more business and economic opportunities to our people.”

Negros Occidental is being frequented by local and international tourists and businesspeople, according to Tan.

With this, he stressed that commercial establishments and facilities in the province, including the airports, must “level up to international standards.”

The province’s capital city Bacolod has been named among the “most livable urban centers” in the Philippines for the second year straight during the Search for the Philippine Model Cities and Municipalities 2018 of The Manila Times.

Bacolod was also cited as a “Most Business-Friendly City.”

The recognition “was inspiring, considering that we were competing with other big and dynamic cities, including Davao City,” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia./PN
