Bacolod splashes in Batang Pinoy medals

BACOLOD City has collected nine medals – including two golds in arnis – on Thursday in the 2018 Batang Pinoy National Finals, which was set to close Friday in Baguio City.

Jean Villadar and Chezka Lian Borrero delivered the arnis golds in the girls’ traditional team single weapon and team open events at the St. Louis University High School.

Julianne Marie Oberes, meanwhile, clinched two silver medals in girls’ individual double weapon and girls’ team double weapon with fellow Bacolodnon Lovely Joy Pabiana, while Lordzianver Tumabing bagged bronze in single weapon.

Bacolod also stamped class in taekwondo as Allen Casana and Roem Joseph Atuban took home a silver medal each while Julio Zapata and Arthur Diaz won bronze. Aklan also had two bronze medals from Tracy Retubio and Lance Ramos.

In swimming, Kyla Soguilon of Aklan settled for bronze medals in 13 to 15 backstroke and butterfly events. Guilever Clemente of Antique clinched silver in 13 to 15 boys’ individual medley while Jhanna Neri of Bacolod City won bronze in 12 and under freestyle.

Moreover the Sagay City Futsal Boys settled for a silver medal in futsal after losing to the Mandaluyong City squad in the championship match on Thursday.

The defeat was a heartbreaker for the Negrense team after its unbeaten run, including lopsided victories against Benguet in the quarterfinals and Don Bosco Cebu in the semifinals./PN
