BACOLOD City – “The people of Bacolod are behind you and we are praying for your victory.”
This was what Mayor Evelio Leonardia told a young person with disability who is now one of the finalists of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” singing contest on “It’s Showtime” television show.
Carl Malone Montecido, 18, paid Leonardia and the Sangguniang Panlungsod a visit at the Bacolod City Government Center recently.
A “person with vision loss”, Montecido was accompanied by his parents Ferdinand and Divina in meeting the mayor and city councilors.
The Montecidos were residents of Barangay 29.
Malone earned a slot in the finalists’ circle after winning the 4th Quarterfinals on Feb. 25.
“Remember that when you sing onstage, you are representing Bacolod, so I hope you make that as an inspiration rather than as an added pressure,” Leonardia told Montecido.
Montecido, in reply, said, “Himuon ko gid ang tanan nga makuha ta ang kadalag-an (I will do everything I can to win this competition).”
Leonardia told the young singer that the city of Bacolod was very proud of his achievement.
He informed Montecido he will set up a giant screen at the BAYS Center for people to watch the grand finals of “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”
The week-long showdown for the grand finals will start on March 6 and will end on March 11.
Leonardia recalled that it was also on “It’s Showtime” in April 2012 when the MassKara Festival dancers representing Bacolod City were hailed as the grand champion of the “Inter-Town Competition.”
Before leaving the city hall, Montecido performed a song number.
