BACOLOD City – The city government will acquire body-worn cameras (BWCs) anew intended for the use of hundreds of traffic enforcers of the Bacolod Traffic and Transportation Management Department (BTTMD).
The City Mayor’s Office (CMO) is currently preparing the documents for the purchase of the new BWCs.
The city had earlier purchased 250 BWCs worth P500 each but due to its limited battery time, the BTTMD requested the CMO to buy new ones with longer battery time.
BTTMD officer-in-charge Patrick Lacson said the first set of BWCs’ battery consumption lasts for only an hour.
“Traffic enforcers cannot use it [BWCs]. They can only utilize it for an hour but their duty is more than that. It will not serve the purpose,” Lacson said, adding that he requested to purchase BWCs valued at around P2,000 each for longer consumption.
The BTTMD officer-in-charge earlier said that the purpose of wearing BWC is to capture interactions with the public, document evidence, and promote transparency since it has audio and video recording devices. It will record real-time audio and video footages for transparency, accountability, and security.
He added that BWCs will protect both traffic enforcers and civilians by ensuring accurate accounts of incidents and enhancing public trust./PN
