BACOLOD City – The city government will implement color and number coding scheme to regulate the number of e-bikes operating in all 61 barangays in this city.
City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea, in a media interview at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) yesterday, said that each operating e-bike would be given a sticker.
Earlier, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez directed the 61 village chiefs to submit the list of e-bikes operating in their respective barangays, together with their tariff and routes.
The move is for the safety of both the drivers and commuters because several e-bikes are operating without the necessary permits, the city mayor added.
As of yesterday, Gelvolea said 57 barangays have submitted their respective list.
The Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) on Monday announced that it will resume its operation against illegal e-bikes on May 24.
The move aims to also regulate e-bikes in the city in compliance with the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memorandum Circular (MC) 2020-036, which prohibits tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs from operating on national highways.
However, Gelvolea said the crackdown on illegal e-bikes was deferred because they are still validating the lists submitted by the village chiefs./PN
