BACOLOD City – The city government will kick-off a round-the-clock vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Aug. 30 timed with the celebration of the National Heroes Day.
The 24-hour shift was developed to expand the local government’s vaccination campaign, according to City Administrator Em Ang, executive director of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) here.
This is another innovation of the city to control the spread of COVID-19 and sustain the downtrend of cases, she added.
The 24-hour vaccination drive will be held at the second floor of Jollibee on Burgos-Gatuslao streets, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Ang said a team from the City Health Office (CHO) headed by officer-in-charge Edwin Miraflor Jr. will administer the jabs.
Priority vaccinees are city residents belonging to the A1 to A5 categories: frontline health workers, senior citizens, adults with comorbidities, essential workers, and the indigent.
They must present any government-issued identification card, as well as the confirmation of their online registration through tinyurl.com/bcdceironline.
After the launching, the 24-hour vaccination at Jollibee’s second floor will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will continue as long as many residents would want to get inoculated.
Also on Monday, the city government will launch its third VAX-i bus under its mobile COVID vaccination drive.
It converted one of its buses as a VAX-i unit, while Vallacar Transit, Inc. loaned another bus for the program.
With the VAX-i, which targets market vendors and drivers, together with the ongoing on-site vaccination of thousands of business process outsourcing employees; the drive-thru vaccination at Ayala Malls Capitol Central; and mall-based campaigns and regular vaccination programs in barangays, schools and health centers, the city is be able to hasten efforts to achieve herd immunity, said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
As this was being written, the city has completely inoculated about 22 percent of its target population.
Meanwhile, this city will hold a “Bigjab Weekend” at the SMX Convention Center at SM City and Ayala Malls Capitol Central on Aug. 28 and 29.
The “Bigjab Weekend” aims to prioritize city residents belonging to A1 to A5 categories especially those who are unable to go to vaccination sites during office hours or working days.
“Bigjab Weekend” will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ang said local residents under the said categories who have registered online may walk-in at any of the two vaccination sites this weekend.
“No need to wait for an appointment notification as long as they have completed their online registration,” Ang added./ PN
