BACOLOD City – The local government unit of this city will extend calamity assistance worth P4.5 million to the provinces in Mindanao badly hit by consecutive earthquakes.

This was in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for immediate relief operations to the local government units in Davao del Sur and North Cotabato, many of which have already declared a state of calamity.

Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the calamity assistance will be distributed to various areas.

According to Vargas, the city will give P500,000 to municipalities of Makilala; Tulunan; Magpet; Magsaysay; and Bansalan. Financial aid worth P1 million will also be sent to the cities of Kidapawan and Digos.

“The city chose these towns and cities after their areas were placed under the state of calamity,” Vargas further noted.

Vargas said that the money will be given through bank-to-bank transaction, and it will be possibly released by next week because it needs the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod./PN
