BACOLOD City – A transport group in this city will participate beginning Monday in another strike to express dismay over the impending deadline of franchise consolidation for traditional jeepneys on April 30.

Rudy Catedral, president of the Bacolod Alliance for Commuters, Operators, and Drivers (Bacod), announced that the transport group will join the protest targeting the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) in response to the calls from the “No to PUV Phaseout Coalition.”

Catedral said the caravan will assemble in Barangay Alijis and proceed to the Old City Hall for a program at 2 p.m.

The Bacod president estimated that around 500 units would participate in the caravan.

Catedral expressed hope that the opening salvo of this series of protest activities will show the city that many are united in opposing the modernization program.

He also emphasized that the modernization program should not threaten the livelihoods of jeepney drivers and operators.

Here, Catedral urged those affected by the modernization program to join forces and ensure that their livelihoods are not jeopardized. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
