Bacolod trike drivers, operators to get fuel subsidy

BACOLOD City –All legitimate tricycle drivers and operators here will receive a one-time fuel subsidy.

This was made possible after the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved a proposed ordinance on its third and final reading on Wednesday, August 17, during their regular session.

According to Councilor Em Ang, the author of the ordinance, all legitimate tricycles-for-hire with an existing franchise issued by the city government will receive the fuel subsidy.

She added that the fuel subsidy will be provided to the recipients once, maybe in the form of fuel voucher, prepaid card or cash.

Based on the record of the Bacolod City government’s Business Permits and Licensing Office, there are 5,630 tricycles for-hire with existing franchises comprising 76 tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA) in the city.

Ang added that she proposed the ordinance citing that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has provided fuel subsidy to jeepney drivers only, but tricycle drivers who are also utilizing fuel in their livelihood have not received such benefit.

“It is imperative for the city to also provide fuel subsidy to the more than P5,000 members of the city TODA as a measure of relief in view of the unprecedented increase of gasoline priced in the country,” the city councilor added./PN
