Bacolod warns residents against illegal garbage collectors

BACOLOD City – The city government warned residents not to allow unaccredited garbage collectors to collect garbage from residences or establishments.

IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) – the lone contractor of the city government to collect and dispose solid waste – is experiencing collection backlogs.

According to the city public information office, Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” damaged the road going to the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa, making it impassable. This delayed garbage hauling.

IPM-CDC has an estimated backlog of 400 trips a week.

The PIO asked residents, particularly those living in subdivision, not to sell or allow their garbage to be collected by illegal garbage collectors that dump these in illegal dumpsites.

Illegal garbage collectors will be apprehended for violations of City Ordinance (CO) No. 531, or Anti-littering; and CO No. 596, or Indiscriminate dumping and throwing of garbage.

Both ordinances have a maximum fine of P2,000 and P2,500, respectively.

Meanwhile, the City Engineer’s Office said the road going to the sanitary landfill is currently undergoing repair.

The city government advised IPM-CDC to increase its garbage trucks’ trips to 137 a day to clear the collection backlog beginning this Sunday, Nov. 20, until the end of next week./PN
