BACOLOD City — The city government of Bacolod received four prestigious awards in the Level 3 category during the 2025 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) held by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, from November 18 to 21.
Bacolod’s award-winning initiatives, recognized under the “sustained smart and sustainable” category, include the Bacolod City Comprehensive Health Program (BacCHP) for human well-being, the Green City Project for sustainability, the Mobile Command Center for wealth protection, and the @LPHA Accelerator Hub for wealth creation.
These accolades highlight the city’s holistic approach to leveraging science, technology, and innovation to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.
Representatives from the Department of Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (D-LEDIP), Aisel Joyce Tupas and Zabrina Bentley, accepted the awards on behalf of the city. Also recognized was DOST Negros Occidental Assistant Provincial Director Engr. Glady Reyes for pioneering initiatives that showcase Bacolod’s commitment to innovation and community well-being.
Bacolod is the only local government unit (LGU) from the Visayas and Mindanao regions to earn Level 3 recognition, which honors sustained excellence in smart and sustainable community initiatives. The city now joins the ranks of Baguio and Cauayan City as one of the few LGUs nationwide to receive four major recognitions in this category.
The 2025 NSTW emphasized building “smart and sustainable communities” through science, technology, and innovation. The event featured an opening ceremony with a fashion show, recognition of outstanding researchers, showcases of disaster preparedness technologies such as GeoRiskPH and PlanSmart, interactive exhibits for students, and forums designed to inspire the next generation of scientists.
