Bacolodnons lead Team PH in 8th Asia Pacific basketball

Julio Lorenzo Teruel will lead nine Bacolod City-based players of Team Pilipinas in the 8th Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup.

MANILA – Bacolodnons will spearhead the Team Pilipinas of Pinoy Youth Dreamers (PYD) in the 8th Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup from Oct. 23 to 28, 2019 in Singapore. 

Julio Lorenzo Teruel, former St. John’s Institute Falcons playmaker who now suits up for the Southwestern University Cobras in Cebu, will lead the nine Bacolod City-based players in the team.

Also in the squad were Brei Ethaniel Benares, Rafael David Lo, Tony Arly Siglos, Zachary Javelosa, James Alvin Calustre, Alfred Louis Rosales, Max Gabriel Natividad, and Luke Adrie Zapata.

Teruel, together with Javelosa and Zapata, are two-time Milo-SBP champion, Milo Olympics champion, and champion of the PYD Cebu.

Also seeing action for Team Pilipinas are players from Manila and Tacloban that include: Ohwen Niño Dayon, Ethan Kaizer Vejerano, Santiago Ma. David, and Dezetto Villanueva.

The pool of players from different places in the country underwent tough trainings with PYD coaches. They are expected to show what they can do in the national and international tournaments.  

Now on its seventh year, PYD has developed kids’ skills and teaches them to be sensitive to the needs of others before themselves.

“Touching Hearts and Changing Lives” is the guiding principle of PYD as a non-government organization.

Moreover, aside from promoting basketball here and abroad, PYD also give sports scholarships, feeding program and outreach programs in various places thru PYD Cares.
