BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo has been appointed to lead the formation of the country’s U-17 girls volleyball team.
Montalbo’s appointment was formalized by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) on Friday in a letter signed by federation president Ramon Suzara.
“We write to inform that you have been chosen by the Board, and hereby appointed as the team manager of U-17 Volleyball National Team,” Suzara told Montalbo.
“Your indelible contribution to the Philippine volleyball has make you the perfect candidate for this task,” he added. “We trust that your love for the sport would make this a perfect opportunity to join us in our goal to bring our beloved volleyball to greater heights here and overseas.”
Montalbo, for his part, thanked Suzara and PNVF for the opportunity to lead the formation of U-17 squad, which he said is a recognition of what he is doing in Bacolod Tay Tung volleyball program.
“I am very much thankful to the PNVF for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity to help in the forming of our national U-17 volleyball team,” Montalbo told Panay News.
“I will definitely do my best to form the best possible team for flag and country. In fact, we will start to scout for some volleyball talents around the country so that we can start the preparation right away,” he added.
Montalbo was known for his success as team manager for the Thunderbolts, which has represented Western Visayas several times in Palarong Pambansa, National PRISAA and other tournaments.
Montalbo’s volleyball program for Bacolod Tay Tung has also produced a number of Negrense volleybelles who were recruited to play for various collegiate teams in Metro Manila.
Among those who made it to Manila from Bacolod Tay Tung were Joan Marie Monares, Marianne Sotomil and Alyssa Bertolano of University of the Philippines, Ann Monares and Kiesha Bedonia of Far Eastern University and Rhean Almendralejo, Shane Carmona and Erika Deloria of Enderun./PN
