BACOLOD City – A man shot dead his fellow laborer in Barangay Binubuhan, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

The 35-year-old resident Raffy Carriedo died of a gunshot wound on the chest around 2 p.m. on Sunday, a police report showed.

He was pronounced “dead on arrival” at the Bago City Hospital by attending physician Dr. Marco Beñosa.

Police identified the suspect as the 31-year-old Rowell Garucho, also a resident of Barangay Binubuhan.

According to investigation, the two were walking together along a sugarcane plantation when Garucho started kissing Carriedo.

Garucho then suddenly drew his .38-caliber firearm and pointed it to Carriedo, the investigators said.

Carriedo pushed Garucho, causing the latter to fall in a nearby creek. But the suspect still managed to fire at Carriedo.

After receiving a report, officers from the Bago City police station responded to the crime scene but failed to catch Garucho, who already fled.

It was around 8:50 p.m. on the same day when Garucho surrendered to the police in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Police investigation revealed that Garucho had also shot Carriedo on the knee last year. But the case had been settled.

Investigation to determine the motive in the shooting was ongoing./PN
