Balasan resident killed in road rage

ILOILO City – A resident of Balasan, Iloilo was killed in a road rage in the town, police said.

The 32-year-old Marny Barreta of Barangay Salong, Balasan died of multiple stab wounds on the body.

His attacker was another motorist he had an altercation with in Barangay Camambugan after an accident at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, police said, citing witnesses.

Locals found Barreta’s body in a grassy canal at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, a few meters away from his motorcycle, said Chief Inspector Kenneth Panisa, Balasan police head.

Panisa said they have yet to identify the suspect, who witnesses said was with two women at the time of the attack.

Barreta and his attacker were driving motorcycles when they figured in the accident. They sustained bruises. And then they had an argument, Panisa said, citing initial investigation.

Responding police officers did not find the victim that night. It turned out, according to witnesses, that he tried to escape and fell into the canal, said Panisa.

Barreta had stab wounds on the chest, neck, stomach, and shoulders, said the police.

“The locals we talked to could not recognize the suspect, which means they were not a native,” Panisa said./PN
