ILOILO City – Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire that hit a residential area in Zone 1, Barangay Baldoza, La Paz district Wednesday.

Three houses were razed while two were damaged, according to the Iloilo City Fire Station.

Investigators pegged the cost of damage at P300,000.

They were looking into an alleged LPG tank explosion as possible cause, City Fire Marshal Christopher Regencia said, citing interviews with witnesses.

The fire started at around 10:15 a.m. from one of the razed houses, owned by Peter Bolante, said Regencia.

Regina Lozada-Bolante and Myrna Onato owned the other two razed houses while the damaged ones were owned by Pat Adorio and Luna Panaguiton.

A resident, 47-year-old Rubina Lozada, sustained a minor injury on the face.

Seven pigs owned by Peter Bolante were burned as well, said Regencia.

Firefighters managed to put the blaze “under control” 32 minutes after response and declared “fire out” at 11:18 a.m.

That motorists did not immediately give way to the incoming fire trucks and the houses were far from the street made the firefighting difficult, Regencia said./PN
