CALINOG, Iloilo – A 21-year-old balut vendor was found dead yesterday in a grassy area of Brgy. Canabajan, this municipality.

The police said Rommel Canja of Brgy. Supanga had been “salvaged.”

According to Chief Insp. Rogelio Ortigas, Calinog police chief, residents found the lifeless victim around 5:30 a.m. with multiple bullet and stab wounds on various parts of his body.

His service motorcycle was missing but his money and cellular phone were still in his possession.

The police said the culprits escaped using his motorcycle.

“As of now, we have no idea who did it, but we are coordinating with his family and friends to gather information that could pinpoint the last persons he had met before he was murdered,” Ortigas said.

Ortigas theorized that the culprits had really planned to kill Canja and not to steal, since “his money and cellular phone were still intact.”

The victim’s father, Danilo, said in a radio interview that his son left Tuesday to sell balut but never returned. He knew of no death threat against his son./PN
