ILOILO City – Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6 raided the house of the barangay captain of Pali, Mandurriao district yesterday around 10 a.m. They found ammunitions but no firearms.
The 55-year-old Barangay Captain Joel Obregon was arrested.
CIDG operatives recovered the following:
* 40 ammunitions for a super .38 handgun
* four M16 magazines
* four empty shells of a .45 pistol
* empty shell of a .9mm pistol
* an air rifle, and
* rifle bag.
Obregon faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, specifically for illegal possession of ammunitions, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG-6 director.
“We received reports from residents of Pali about Barangay Captain Obregon,” said Tayaba.
The reports were about alleged indiscriminate firing of guns.
Judge Loida Diestro-Maputol of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 28 issued the search warrant./PN
