Barangay tanods honored for frontline service

ILOILO — Barangay tanods from Pavia, Guimbal, and Passi City were hailed as provincial champions in the 2025 Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanod (SOBT), as the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Iloilo provincial government recognized grassroots frontliners who have gone beyond the call of duty in maintaining peace, order, and public safety.

Top honors were awarded to Barangay Tigum in Pavia, Barangay Cabubugan in Guimbal, and Barangay Talongonan in Passi City during the Kapisan 2025 awarding ceremony held Monday morning, December 22, in Mandurriao district. The event underscored the role of barangay tanods as first responders and community protectors, often working with limited compensation but sustained by commitment to service.

The Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanod recognizes barangay-based security personnel who exemplify dedication, discipline, and selfless service, particularly in safeguarding lives, preserving peace and order, and responding to disasters and emergencies.

1st to 3rd Class Municipalities

* Champion: Barangay Tigum, Pavia

* 1st runner-up: Barangay Jovellar, Igbaras

* 2nd runner-up: Barangay Gabi, Carles

4th to 6th Class Municipalities

* Champion: Barangay Cabubugan, Guimbal

* 1st runner-up: Barangay Badiang, Anilao

* 2nd runner-up: Barangay San Vicente, Leganes

City Category

* Champion: Barangay Talongonan, Passi City

Individual Category

* Champion: Rex C. Sargado, Barangay Sambag Culob, Anilao

* 1st runner-up: Elmar P. Sta. Maria, Barangay Ilajas, Dingle

* 2nd runner-up: Eddie D. Dañoso, Barangay Cag-an, Anilao

Awardees received plaques of recognition, congratulatory tarpaulins, and prize certificates in the presence of their respective punong barangays and barangay officials.

Members of the Provincial Search Committee were also present, representing the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Iloilo Police Provincial Office, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, ADVOCATES-Iloilo, and the National Police Commission./PN
