ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received a fire call on Monday night, March 11, reporting a blaze in the vicinity of Monte Rosa Subdivision in Barangay Hibao-an Sur, Mandurriao district.

A bunkhouse for construction workers was engulfed in flames that broke out at around 8:02 p.m.

The fire escalated to “second alarm” because the bunkhouse also served as storage for various construction materials such as paints, thinners, concrete epoxy, and rubber.

In an interview with Gamie Cagayao, owner of the bunkhouse, the estimated damage from the fire exceeded P500,000.

Hibao-an Sur barangay captain Engr. Rodlen Gallenero said some laborers reportedly cooked dinner. But due to working overtime, they relied on leaving it to some of their companions, until the cooking was forgotten./PN
