BACOLOD City – Fifty-four education graduates of Bacolod City College (BCC) from Batch 2025 are now eligible to take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in September following the issuance of a Special Order by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) last week.
The Special Order covers 25 graduates of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in Mathematics and 29 graduates of BSEd major in Filipino, officially clearing them to proceed with their LET applications after months of uncertainty.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the city government worked closely with CHED to address compliance issues that previously hindered the graduates from obtaining the required Special Order.
He explained that the concern was raised as early as August last year and involved the appointment of qualified academic officials and faculty members specializing in Mathematics and Filipino to meet CHED standards.
“We immediately addressed the lack of qualified signatories and faculty when I assumed office. Once all requirements were completed, CHED issued the Special Order, which was the final hurdle for the graduates,” Gasataya said.
The mayor added that without the Special Order, the BSEd programs could have faced possible closure due to non-compliance. He said the issue has now been fully resolved, ensuring that future graduates will no longer experience similar problems.
Gasataya also assured the graduates that the city government is preparing review assistance and other forms of support to help them in their LET preparations.
Graduates welcomed the development with relief and gratitude. BSEd Filipino graduate Jusin Junsay said the approval finally allowed them to move forward with their plans to become licensed teachers after months of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, BSEd Mathematics graduate Louiela Rose Ambata said they nearly lost hope due to accreditation concerns but are now optimistic about taking the board examination.
With the issuance of the CHED Special Order, all succeeding BSEd graduates majoring in Mathematics and Filipino at BCC will be eligible to take the LET, strengthening opportunities for aspiring educators in the city./PN
