BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office’s (BCPO) anti-vandalism taskforce was rewarded for effective enforcement of City Ordinance (CO) No. 08-14-679, of the anti-vandalism ordinance.
Police Colonel Noel Aliño, BCPO director, said the taskforce received P5,000 reward for each apprehension.
Aliño added that most of the arrested were caught in the act spraying paint on the walls along Burgos and Araneta streets in this city.
Earlier this month, the BCPO offered a P1,000 reward to anyone who could identify those responsible for defacing public properties as well as traffic signage.
Aliño also said the city police had committed to assist the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) address the vandalizing of traffic signage.
The city police director has warned that vandalizing traffic signage could lead to unsafe driving conditions and potentially result in accidents.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, April 24, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez issued Executive Order (EO) No. 025, or “An order creating a task force against vandalism in the City of Bacolod.”
“There is a need to designate a taskforce whose main objective is to strictly implement measures to curve the proliferation of vandalism incidents in the city,” read part of the EO.
The taskforce is chaired by the city mayor and City Legal Office Romeo Carlos Ting serves as vice chairperson.
According to Benitez, proliferation of acts of vandalism has been observed in different public and private areas of the city, including but not limited to walls, doors, bridges, overpass and even inside some of the school properties.
“Vandalism has an adverse effect on the quality of life in various communities in the city, creating an undesirable impression of disorder and lawlessness here,” he added./PN
