BACOLOD City — Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), is awaiting an official order for his reassignment, which is expected to take effect this week after nearly two years of service in the city.
Coronica described his tenure as one marked by “leadership with sincerity,” saying he focused on maintaining peace and order in Bacolod during his more than one year and six months as city director.
He said his reassignment forms part of his career development and is a normal process within the Philippine National Police (PNP).
During a press conference on February 4, Coronica confirmed that once officially relieved, he will be assigned to the headquarters of the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR).
Coronica said he took his role seriously and worked to ensure safety and stability in the city.
Meanwhile, Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed in a radio interview that five names have been endorsed to him as possible candidates for the next BCPO director. He explained that Coronica is already due for promotion, which necessitates his relief from the post.
The mayor expressed support for Coronica’s career advancement and praised his leadership and performance during his tenure as city police chief.
Gasataya said the list of candidates was submitted by the regional office and is currently under consideration.
He noted that his choice will be based on several factors, including leadership skills, performance in peace and order operations, track record, career history, and previous assignments.
“Regardless of where they came from, what matters most is their performance in their previous assignments,” Gasataya said.
Among those confirmed on the list is Police Colonel Eugene N. Rebadomia of the PRO-NIR, a resident of Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod.
Gasataya emphasized that his priority is to ensure the safety of Bacolodnons and the continuity of peace and order and anti-illegal drug campaigns in the city. He also commended the BCPO under Coronica’s leadership for its overall performance./PN
