BEA BORRES and Richard Yap came to defend Jillian Ward, who recently faced misogynistic remarks over long-circulating “sugar daddy” rumors linking her to former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson.
Borres, who shared that she watched Ward’s interview, took to Facebook on Wednesday, Oct. 22, to criticize the sexist undertones of the allegations.
“Society just hates it when a woman succeeds on her own. As someone who’s been through the same accusations before, I’ll never understand why it’s so hard to believe that a woman can actually make it without a man backing her up,” wrote the content creator.
Yap, meawhile, expressed support for Ward in the comments section of the young actress’ latest post, telling her to ignore the noise as criticism often comes with success.
“Don’t listen to what others have to say, anak; they’re all just noise,” the actor told her onscreen daughter. “That just means you’re relevant and they’re jealous. We know how hard you work for what you have. Love you!”
Yap and Ward starred in the hit drama series “Abot Kamay na Pangarap” on GMA, where they played father and daughter to each other, respectively.
lIn a recent interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Ward addressed claims that she was being supported by Singson, including funding her glamorous 18th birthday celebration two years ago.
Ward firmly denying ever having met or spoken with him, explaining that her debutante’s party was partly sponsored by her network, GMA, and the rest by her savings.
The “Trudis Liit” star recalled that the rumors first surfaced around 2020, when she was 16, after netizens questioned how she could afford to buy a secondhand luxury car.
Ward admitted that the allegations took a toll on her and her family, particularly her mother, who was being accused of pimping her daughter to rich men.
Rumors between Ward and Singson began after blind items resurfaced online, hinting at their supposed “special relationship.”
