Beermen mauls Painters for 2-0 lead in PBA semis

MANILA – San Miguel Beermen clawed back from 29 points down to score a 117-105 victory over Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 2 of the 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals last night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Chris Ross unloaded 10 three-pointers to finish with conference-best 34 points.

Import Chris McCullough chipped in 22 points, 17 rebounds and six assists.

Alex Cabagnot, Christian Standhardinger, June Mar Fajardo, and Terrence Romeo also had double figures scoring with 17, 15, 14 and 12, respectively, as the Beermen moved up 2-0 in the best-of-five series.

The Painters went to a rousing start and went up by as much as 29 points but the Beermen easily erased it with triples from Ross and Cabagnot to come to within 49-52 at the half.

The ROS were still up 56-49 when the SMB uncorked three-pointers after three-pointers from Ross, Cabagnot and Romeo for an 81-63 edge.

Hits from James Yap allowed the Painters to come to within 15.

The Beermen went for the kill in the final period with Ross converting two more triples for its largest lead at 105-84 before the Painters came up with late hits to trim the final deficit.

Carl Montgomery had 24 points, 15 rebounds and six assists while Rey Nambatac and Eduardo Daquioag added 15 and 13 markers, respectively, for the Painters./PN
