MANILA – After narrowly missing the feat in her previous outing, Tagaytay Tol Patriots’ Stefanie Berberabe finally achieved a historic quadruple-double in the Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL) on Sunday night.
The Gilas Pilipinas Women standout delivered 20 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals to power the Patriots to an 82-70 victory over the Pangasinan Solar Home Suns at the Batangas City Coliseum.
Berberabe clinched the milestone with 2:20 left in the game, intercepting Stifanny Larrosa’s bailout pass to Ara Abaca after Larrosa was trapped in the corner.
The play not only secured her quadruple-double but also sealed Tagaytay Tol’s second straight win following a 0-4 start to the tournament.
Just a week earlier, Berberabe came close to the same feat, tallying 13 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and seven steals in the Patriots’ dominant 91-63 victory over RK Hoops-Quezon City.
In a televised post-game interview, the former National University Lady Bulldog credited her teammates for helping her become the first player in WMPBL history to notch a quadruple-double.
“My teammates are great. They’ve just make the game easier, so the game just come easy for me,” Berberabe said. “Shout out to my teammates, they just make the basketball here much easier.”
“I think it is just playing with my heart. I am exhausted running up and down the court, but my coaches, teammates, and the managers just put so much trust in me, so I just came out to play every game,” she added.
Berberabe became only the third player in Philippine professional basketball history to register a quadruple-double.
She joined Donbel Belano, who had 17 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and 10 steals in Davao’s win over Nueva Ecija during the 1999 MBA season, and Kyt Jimenez, who posted 33 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists, and 11 steals in Sarangani’s 125-74 rout of Mindoro in the 2022 MPBL season.
Meanwhile, Pangasinan-Solar Home suffered its second straight loss, dropping to 3-3 in the standings./PN
