MANILA – Gualberto “Dodoy” Bernas IV, the only Ilonggo running for the presidency of the Philippine Association of Local Treasurers and Assessors (PHALTRA), reached out to his rivals and urged them to remain friends after the elections are held today.
Bernas got into a huddle with rival candidates Gil Barreto and Ray Salazar at the Century Park Hotel on Tuesday in the presence of Iloilo City Assessor Nelson Parreño with an appeal to keep their campaign on the level, and without personal animosities.
This developed as Bernas, who is the OIC-City Treasurer of Parañaque City, reported receiving more commitments of support from Visayas and Mindanao provinces as they arrived at the Philippine International Convention Center.
“Even in regions where I wasn’t able to visit and campaign, I am happy to report that we are getting pledges of support,” said Bernas.
Bernas conferred with more treasurers and assessors until late Tuesday night to firm up their commitment for his candidacy.
He was carrying the flag of treasurers, said Bernas. For many years now, PHALTRA has been led by provincial and city assessors. It’s time that treasurers are also given the opportunity to lead the organization, he said./PN
