ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is mobilizing thousands of students across Region 6 for an intensified fire safety campaign this March, formally enlisting the Department of Education (DepEd) to anchor Fire Prevention Month 2026 activities in schools.
In a move aimed at strengthening fire safety awareness among the youth, BFP Regional Headquarters 6 sent a letter to DepEd regional director Cristito Eco seeking coordination for a Regional Art Contest and other school-based fire safety initiatives as part of the nationwide observance.
March is observed as Fire Prevention Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, underscoring the government’s year-round campaign to heighten public awareness on fire prevention and safety.
For this year’s observance, the BFP is adopting the campaign slogan, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa,” emphasizing shared responsibility among government agencies, communities, institutions, and households in preventing fire incidents.
BFP said it continues to implement responsive and sustainable fire prevention initiatives to safeguard lives, property, and the environment, with schools seen as strategic partners in cultivating a culture of preparedness among learners.
Among the major activities lined up is a Regional Art Contest and other school-based fire safety programs that require active student participation.
“We humbly request your assistance and guidance to ensure smooth coordination between fire stations and concerned schools. Your support will greatly contribute to the effective, orderly, and meaningful implementation of these activities and will further reinforce a culture of safety and preparedness among learners,” the BFP said in its letter to DepEd
BFP clarified that participation of public schools will strictly adhere to DepEd’s non-disruption of classes policy under DepEd Order No. 9, Series of 2005. Schools Division Superintendents are given discretion in implementing the activities to ensure that academic schedules remain uninterrupted/PN
