ANTIQUE — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Antique is intensifying fire prevention and response measures as the province prepares for the observance of Holy Week and the summer season.
The agency highlighted its readiness during the 2026 Summer Safety Press Conference and Inter-Agency Coordination Meeting organized by the Philippine Information Agency on March 9 at the Gov. Josue L. Cadiao Multi-Purpose Center in the New Capitol Annex.
Fire officials said the risk of fire incidents typically rises during the summer months, as prolonged dry conditions and extreme heat make grasslands and forest areas more susceptible to fires.
BFP data showed that Antique recorded 92 grass fires and 23 forest fires in 2024. In 2025, however, incidents significantly declined to four grass fires and zero forest fires, reflecting improved monitoring and prevention efforts.
Despite this, authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during Holy Week when many families leave their homes unattended to travel or take part in religious activities such as Visita Iglesia.
The BFP advised the public to unplug electrical appliances before leaving their homes, avoid overloading outlets, and ensure that cooking equipment and other electrical devices are properly turned off.
Residents were likewise cautioned against open burning in grassy or forested areas, particularly during periods of extreme heat and dry weather.
The agency assured that fire stations across the province are on heightened alert and ready to respond to emergencies as part of Antique’s overall disaster preparedness efforts.
BFP officials emphasized that fire prevention is a shared responsibility and called on communities to remain watchful and promptly report any fire incidents to the nearest fire station.
