Big high school teams go 2-0 in NBTC Iloilo

ILOILO CITY –Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix goes 2-0 in the SM/ Chooks to Go National Basketball Training Camp Tournament-Iloilo leg after a 102-65 showcase over Mandurriao National High School on Sunday at Western Institute of Technology STS Gym.

Dave Bagatnan led the Red Phoenix with 13 points, while Kirk Zabal contributed 12 markers as they lead in the Group C of the annual tournament.  Jay Diaz and Stephen Baylon scored 12 and 10 points apiece for Mandurriao.

Hua Siong’s rival, defending champion Santa Clarita International School Primes also gunned their second straight win by defeating Sun Yat Sen High School. Giann Nahine tallied 18 markers, while Keith Bernasol contributed 16 points for the Primes.

St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets also cruised to 2-0 record after an 80-54 routing of CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights. Irele Galas and Gwyn Pendon had 15 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Panda Rockets.

University of San Agustin also went undefeated in two matches after dominating over Iloilo National High School 77-40. Shen Magbanua and Joseph Ticorda had 12 markers each for USA.

PAREF-Westbridge, meanwhile, bounced back from their opening day defeat with a 69-58 win over Central Philippine University Golden Lions. Francis Pelayo went hot with 35 points for PAREF.

In other results, San Antonio National High School edged Filipino American School Town (FAST), 53-42, Ateneo de Iloilo cruised past Barotac Viejo National High School, 64-56, and Mandurriao defeated Assumption Passi, 81-73./PN
