ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has successfully undergone a bile duct operation at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, Metro Manola on November 11.

In a statement, Treñas announced that the procedure went smoothly and that his doctors advised him to focus on recovery in the coming days.

“Sa tanan nga nag-upod sa pag-ampo kag nagbulig para sa akon operasyon kahapon, akon gid ginapasalamatan ang inyo suporta kag pagpakig-angot sa Ginoo,” the mayor said.

Treñas expressed heartfelt gratitude to his medical team for their dedication during his bile duct surgery.

He extended special thanks to Dr. Anthony Perez, who led the team.

Treñas also appreciated the support and efforts of the nurses and doctors, especially acknowledging Dr. Gaudencio Franco, his godson, for working tirelessly to ensure a successful procedure.

“I am deeply grateful to these medical experts and to our prayer warriors who surrounded me with their unwavering faith and love,” said Treñas.

Likewise, Treñas extended special thanks to his wife Rosalie, his children, and their spouses, who were by his side throughout his surgery and recovery.

He also expressed deep gratitude to his core group, classmates, friends, family, and all Ilonggos who kept him in their prayers.

“Ginapasalamatan ko kamo tanan sa inyo padayon nga suporta kag pangamuyo,” he said, acknowledging the strength he drew from their unwavering support and prayers during this time.

Treñas shared that, following his doctor’s advice, he will be taking a period of rest and recovery.

He expressed his eagerness to return to Iloilo City to celebrate his birthday with the community next month and asked for continued prayers for his fast and full recovery.

Treñas recently announced his decision not to seek re-election, explaining that stepping down was in the best interest of Team Uswag and Iloilo City.

Treñas has endorsed his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, as his successor in the upcoming elections. By supporting her candidacy, he hopes to ensure continuity in leadership for Iloilo City and to carry forward the programs and vision he established with Team Uswag.

Reflecting on his commitment to public service, the mayor stated, “I have always believed there is nothing we cannot do if we do it together. We can accomplish so much if we are united and think as one Ilonggo family for the good of our future generations.”

As he continues his recovery from bile duct surgery, the mayor remains hopeful for the city’s progress and unity.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has appointed Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna as the acting vice mayor of Iloilo City, with Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon stepping in as the acting mayor during Mayor Jerry P. Treñas’ recovery.

This temporary shift in leadership ensures the stability and continuity of city governance while the mayor is on medical leave. DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos issued a memorandum outlining Cabaluna’s designation, with a reminder that his duties as acting vice mayor exclude any decisions related to DILG Memo Circular No. 2019-21./PN
